The establishment of the Csömör Center is attributed to Tiborné Szekeres (known to many as Erzsi Szekeres). As a mother raising a severely disabled son, in the 1980s, she confronted how inadequately the care and rehabilitation of disabled individuals were addressed in Hungary. She realized the immense challenge families and parents faced in providing professional care, development, and placement for their disabled children. All of this needed to be done in a way that was reassuring and acceptable for family members and where the disabled individuals themselves could also feel well.
